Why would you need an iPod in South Africa?
I really have been giving this some thought recently. I really cannot think of too many instances where in South Africa I would be wishing I had my iPod with me. So far the only time I can think it would be beneficial is when you are waiting in line at anything that is government run, which isn't exactly every day. Even then, do I really need an iPod, or would any old mp3 player do? My cellphone has an mp3 player-sorted!
So why do I keep hearing that the iPod craze is alive and well in SA? Just to be clear, I do own an iPod, and everyday I find new ways to justify the expense. Walking to my train, waiting for my train, on the train, waiting for my tube, on the tube, walking to work. This is every single day, so on average I will listen to a minimum of 2 hours of music per working day (if the transport runs properly.)
Now in SA, on a typical day I would get into my car listen to the radio/cd/mp3 player in my car on the way to work and back.
I understand the 'fad' factor, and that is probably why I got an iPod rather than any other cheaper (and probably better) mp3 player.
I would love some peeps in SA to leave a comment explaining to me, why they have an iPod, or why they think people in SA are getting them? Is it purely the trendy thing to have? If it is the white headphones which scream 'mug me'- then guys I'll bring a container full when I get to SA in a couple months and sell 'em for pile of cash!
